Africa 38: Read This if You Are Considering a Trip to Africa

After much research and investigation, we booked our trip with Overseas Adventure Travel. We found this company to offer the best value for us. All other tour operators we investigated charged more, often much more.
We learned, after being in Africa, that all the tour operators use the same licensed guides, drive the same types of vehicles and visit the same places.  All our trip leaders and driver guides were excellent.

More expensive tours may use slightly nicer lodges, but we found our accommodations to be first rate.

So, if it's value you are looking for, I would not hesitate to suggest you give Overseas Adventure Travel a call. (800 955-1925)  They will find a trip that accommodates your time schedule and your needs.

If you do decide to travel with OAT, give them number 002068883 when you book and receive a $100 dollar discount on your trip.

Our adventure, described in these posts, lasted 5 weeks. That's a bit long for most folks. Fortunately, there are many choices available to assist you in creating the perfect African safari experience.

For example, one can easily do either the southern Africa trip, shown in red above, or the eastern Africa trip, shown in purple, separately.  Each of those trips takes roughly two weeks.

There are many other African safari possibilities as well.  Don't be afraid to ask questions and explore options.

All that said, African safaris, by their very nature, require a traveler to be in the general proximity of the animals.  Wild animal parks and reserves, therefore, are not often close to "civilization."

People have asked us if we ever felt unsafe "out in the middle of nowhere."  Never.  I always felt safe and welcomed.

In fact, I was personally amazed at how well we were cared for.

Excellent food.  Clean, comfortable lodging.  All had hot water, electricity, and private bathrooms with flush toilets and showers.  There were always opportunities to charge our electronic gear.

It's true internet access was spotty.  However, internet addicts on our trip were able, for the most part, to make do.

Bottom line: if the experiences I have shared in these posts happen to have ignited an urge to plan your own African adventure, my wholehearted advice is just do it.  Not only won't you be sorry, but you will come home a different person.

If you have any questions before embarking upon a trip of this nature, leave them in a comment and I will do my best to answer them for you.
